    Some controversial issues refuse to be resolved and apparently, such is the case with a proposed bathhouse and parking in Corolla on the only ocean-to-sound property in the state that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Audubon solicits scientists to support closure (Tuesday, January 26, 2010)
    Approximately five dozen scientists have signed on to a letter drafted by Audubon North Carolina which solicited signers to add their support in asking the National Park Service to adopt the "highest degree of protection" listed in the US Geological Survey's management protocols that include full year round closure to all recreation - both ORV and pedestrians - of Bodie Island Spit, Cape Point, South Beach, Hatteras Spit, North Ocracoke and South Ocracoke.
  • Recovery Act funds lower energy costs, provide jobs (Tuesday, January 19, 2010)
    Federal Recovery Act funds are projected to help lower home heating and cooling costs for those with low incomes and provide jobs, particularly for the hard-hit construction trades.
  • Finger of blame points in many directions (Wednesday, January 13, 2010)
    On June 29, US Bankruptcy Judge J. Rich Leonard signed an order allowing two related civil cases to be consolidated and remanded to Dare County Superior Court where one of the cases was first filed in 2006 on behalf of Maryland investors Thomas and James Gordon.
